Western Civilization

Published by gmatthewshhs

The students will study the people of ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, showing how they laid the groundwork for our society. Next they survey the development of European society through the Renaissance, Reformation, and discovery of the New World. Finally they analyze the political and social turmoil that created the modern world in which we live.

Assignments: Students are to make their own study guides for the final exam throughout the year. Those study guides, including all chapters covered in class, must include Terms and Names, and Main Ideas questions  from the section reviews at the end of each section (students do not have to include any question that requires a graphic organizer). At some point these will be collected and be graded on level of completion as part of their final exam grade. Failure to do these section reviews will mean not passing the final exam. In most chapters, students will also be required to write “I learned statements”. Each statement must be a complete sentence- including correct capitalization and punctuation. For each section they would be required to write 5 statements per major subsection (in red). There are normally 2-5 subsections per section. To get full credit, they must do at least the total minimum number (they may of course do more) and have at least 1 statement from each subsection (some subsections are longer than others).

Assignments and due dates are subject to change.
